Splatters - a Christmas Decoration for the Craft Stamper Blog

This month, Craft Stamper's blog challenge "Take it, Make it Challenge Five" is to create something with "splatters". You can use one of Paula Whittaker's fab techniques from the November issue, or anything that makes a splatter. I am very excited to be a guest designer for the blog today. My creation features a few different splatter techniques - I wonder how many you can spot before I point them out?

"Splatters"

For the background, Dylusions inks are sprayed onto white card (splatter 1) and Festive Berries distress ink is sponged around the edges to tie all the colours together. Water is sprayed onto the project using a mini mister (splatter 2), and water droplets are dripped on from fingers to get larger effects (splatter 3).

Tim Holtz' kings on camels stamp is stamped over the background using jet black archival ink and heat-embossed in Stampendous holographic, then layers of clear embossing are added over the top creating a glass-like finish with holographic particles suspended within.

It was hard to get a good photo, but I love the finished result of this effect.

The frame itself is painted in a mixture of colours of acrylic paints with fingers, applying blobs and splatters of colour (splatter 4) and rubbing them into each other to get swirls and colour gradations. Then I squirted a pile of white acrylic paint onto my craft mat, and used Tim Holtz' snowflake stamp to pick up white paint and splatter it onto the frame (splatter 5), making sure to do all the edges as well as the front face. The paint is left to dry overnight, then the same technique is used a little more carefully(!) to stamp glue for gilding (splatter 6). I used IndigoBlu's "Morris Dance" gilding flakes, which have a lovely blue element in them.

I've seen Hels Sheridan on C&C saving the little pearls of UTEE from the melt pot - I thought I was the only one obsessive enough for that lol! Anyway, I sprinkled a few along the bottom edge of the frame after fixing the main panel in place, and heated them up gently so they slightly melted and stuck, making a fab metallic sandy / stony path for the camels.

This metal snowflake charm was gilded using the same flakes to match the frame and fixed in place onto the panel with Pinflair, together with a tiny gem (well it is for Christmas!). So there you have it, did you find all 6 splatter techniques?
